New US hit comedy "Ugly Betty" is now showing in the UK and looks set to become a great success here too. Executive produced by Mexican actress, Salma Hayek, who also appears in some of the episodes. The show is based on a popular Colombian telenovela (soap opera) "Yo soy Betty la fea". Adaptations of the Colombian series have already been shown in Israel, India, Germany, Russia and Spain amongst other countries.
The starring role is played by America Ferrera, a far from ugly Latina.
